Windows Live OneCare Help Center
How do I set the Firewall to ask me before allowing a new program?
By default, the Windows Live OneCare Firewall automatically allows a program to access the Internet if the program is allowed by the firewall policy
. You can turn off this feature and set the Firewall to check with you before allowing any program to access the Internet for the first time.
To set the Firewall to always check before allowing a new program
On the left side of the Windows Live OneCare display, click View or change settings.
On the Firewall tab, under Security level, move the slider to Prompt.
- Click Apply or OK.
After you perform this procedure, any program that had been allowed to access the Internet previously will now be blocked. When any of these programs tries to go online, you will see a dialog box asking if you want to Allow in future or Keep blocking the program from the Internet. If you choose Allow in future, you might need to close and start the program again, or repeat your last action in the program, before the program will connect to the Internet and complete the action you were trying to perform.
