Windows Live OneCare Help Center
What do I do if I don't have a Backup device?
In order to use Windows Live OneCare Backup, you must have a disc burner or an external hard drive connected to your computer. If you do not have such a device, you can still use the other protection and maintenance features of Windows Live OneCare, but you cannot use Windows Live OneCare to back up your files.
If you do not have a valid backup device, you can turn off backup notifications for your computer. This will prevent Windows Live OneCare from notifying you or from changing your computer's status because of files that are not backed up.
To turn off backup notifications
On the left side of the Windows Live OneCare display, click View or change settings.
- Click the Backup tab.
- Clear the Remind me when my files need backing up check box.
- Click OK.
Turning off Backup notifications reduces the security of your computer because it prevents Windows Live OneCare from helping you restore your important files in the case of a virus attack or hardware failure. If you performed a backup prior to turning this feature off, you can still restore files from that backup; however, the set might not contain all or the most recent versions of your important files.
